Anno Domini; the setting
The year is 2307 AD, humanity has yet to unite as one. Instead, three central powers emerge based on the locations of the Orbital Elevators and its solar satellites, which were build to combat the waning supply of fossil fuel. The Union, AEU (Advanced European Union), and Human Reform League (HRL) are the super powers, each flexing its muscles around the world for self gain. The world is still not yet at peace. This is a look toward our possible future, where global terrorism, civil war, and suppression still exist.
Celestial Being comes into this world as a self-proclaimed keeper of peace. Its goal is to use Gundams, special mobile suits which utilizes GN particles for power, to perform armed intervention against all warfare. Needless to say, none of the three super powers welcome this renegade group. They feel threatened by Celestial Being's presence, and began actively opposing the actions of the Gundam pilots, or Gundam Meisters, with the HRL taking lead action in trying to capture the Gundams for their own advancement.
The members of Celestial Being though, truely believe they are doing their best to prevent conflict, especially each of the four Gundam Meisters. If they have to make the world their enemy in order to achieve their goal, so be it. Each of the Gundam Meisters entered the organization for very different reasons, but they all believe war is evil, and trust in the words of Aeolia Schenberg, the founder of Celestial Being. Gundam 00 is the story of their struggle, as well as how the lives of so many others are altered as a result.
Lockon Stratos
Lockon Stratos is the second Meister to be introduced and seen by viewers, assisting the main protagonist Setsuna F Seiei in their first official operation. Although Setsuna is the clear main lead, the other three Meisters get near the exact same amount of importance within the story; let's just say Sunrise has a favorite.
From the beginning, Lockon settles in as one of the most friendly characters, displaying a carefree nature. He is often seen taking care of the other members of Celestial Being, and as a Meister, he is a good team player. His full code name is Lockon Stratos, most likely a play on the fact he specializes in sniping and "locking on" to targets. Stratos is picked as his last name most likely because Lockon says he is someone who can snipe beyond the stratosphere with his Gundam, GN-002 Dynames. Somewhat early on, Lockon reveals his true name to be Neil Dylandy, from Ireland, to one of the crew members of their main ship, Ptolemaios (or Ptolemy for short). Even though revealing real identities is against their code, Lockon did it to make Feldt Grace feel more comfortable with the fact she had told him her parents died working for Celestial Being; so they could be even.
One could call Lockon the "big brother" type, since he takes care of his fellow Meisters and even had been joked to be the babysitter. In addition to piloting Dynames, he is assisted by an orange Haro, a familiar "character symbol" in the Gundam franchise. While the orange color is more unique to Gundam 00, the size of Haro is closest to the Haro in the original Kidou Senshi Gundam anime, designed and owned by Amuro Ray. Lockon refers to Haro as his "aibou" or partner, and Haro often takes care of calculations and auto-piloting while Lockon snipes. Haro has some basic speech, and often contributes to the few comedic scenes shown in the series.
